Sahar

Sahar

An initiative run by Serbest Salih that teaches local and refugee children how to take photos and print them in the darkroom.

Project Info

Sirkhane DARKROOM operates from the city of Mardin, situated on the border of Turkey and Syria in South-eastern Turkey. The region has received many traumatised refugees fleeing war in Syria and Iraq. Recently, the earthquakes of 2023 in this region have intensified the trauma, particularly affecting children.

Established in 2017 by Serbest Salih, Sirkhane DARKROOM is housed within a shipping container converted for educational and darkroom purposes. More recently, Serbest acquired a caravan which he adapted into a mobile darkroom, enabling him to reach children in remote villages without transportation, a crucial need following the earthquakes.
